Redevelopment Ready Sites

The Redevelopment Ready Communities (RRC) certification through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) is a program that measures. Then it certifies communities that integrate transparency, predictability, and efficiency into their daily development practices. The RRC certification formally recognizes that a community has a vision for the future and fundamental practices and a strategic community-driven approach to accomplish this vision. 

To be vibrant and competitive, Michigan communities must be ready for development by planning for new investment and reinvestment, identifying assets and opportunities, and focusing on limited resources. The foundation of the certification program begins with RRC Best Practices designed to create a predictable and straightforward experience for investors, businesses, and residents working within the community, and which challenges communities to be flexible while seeking quality development that supports a sense of place.  RRCs attract and retain businesses, offer superior customer service, and have a streamlined development approval process. 

The properties shown in the panel to the right have been determined by the Portage City Administration and the Portage Planning Commission as sites with the greatest need for redevelopment that will benefit the surrounding area and promote economic growth and stability within the City of Portage.
