11th Annual Black History Month Presentation – Featuring Candacy Taylor
The City of Portage hosts the 11th annual Black History Month Presentation this Friday, February 6, beginning at 6 PM, at the Air Zoo, 6151 Portage Road. This year’s presentation features author, travel writer, and explorer, Candacy Taylor. Ms. Taylor’s presentation provides insight into her best-selling book, Overground Railroad: The Green Book and the Roots of Black Travel in America, her personal experiences researching and writing it, and the challenges she faced.
The Green Book assisted African American travelers with information on safe places to eat and where to find essential services during the era of institutional racial segregation. Candacy is the leading Green Book expert in the county. Her book made the New York Times most notable books, Oprah Magazine’s top 26 travel books, and National Geographic’s top 10 list of books by women. Ms. Taylor’s list of notable accomplishments will fascinate everyone in attendance.
This extraordinary opportunity is FREE and open to the public, with doors opening at 5:30 PM and the presentation beginning at 6 PM. A question-and-answer session and a book signing will take place after the presentation. A limited number of books will be available for purchase for $20.00 each, cash only.
