Matter of Balance- Spots remaining!Mondays, 11 AM – 1 PMJuly 8 – August 26 (8-week commitment) Free- Call to register at (269) 329 – 4555Are you wondering what happened to your balance, wobbling a bit when you walk, or wavering some when you stand? If so, A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls is a program for you. This program is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase the activity levels or older adults. The class will help participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals for increasing activity, and change their environment to reduce fall risk factors. This class requires an 8-week commitment and involves light exercise.

Harmonia – A Sanctuary for Sojourner Truth Tuesday, July 9 6 – 7 PM $3 Members / $5 Non-Members Presented by: Kevin & Amy Ailes Sojourner Truth was one of the most prominent abolitionists and women’s activists in the 1800s. She spent 10 years of her life in the former town of Harmonia, near Battle Creek, MI. Using good old-fashioned research and modern technology, Preservationists Kevin & Amy Ailes were able to locate the site of the former town as well as her home. Ukulele Class All Levels Wednesdays, July 10 – August 14 10 – 11:30 AM $80 Members / $90 Non-members Instructed by: Josh Holcomb Learning a new instrument is good for your health and has many health benefits including increased eye-hand coordination, lower stress levels, improved brain function, focus, and mental clarity. Join us at the PSC for a six-week ukulele class for beginners and those who have previous ukulele experience. Learn chords, and techniques and learn to play ukulele songs. All materials, including ukuleles, will be provided for students during the class. Participants are welcome to bring their own ukulele, however ukuleles are available for use on loan if needed. Slab Built Ceramic Paint Palette Thursday, July 11 3 – 5 PM $30 Members / $35 Non-Members Do you love to paint, or just like to dabble? Why not make your own custom paint palette?! Join ceramicist Kim Barrett as she leads you through the process of creating your own custom ceramic slab paint palette. Your palette can be used for watercolor and gouache paints as well as for acrylics or oils (with larger wells). All students will carve, shape and mold their own paint palette out of clay customizing the shape, number/size of wells. *Please note: Ceramic clay is very different from polymer clay and air-dry clay. It requires glaze and a kiln, so each piece will be dried completely, glazed with clear glaze to show the white clay, fired and returned by our instructor for your pickup. The Victorian Bakery – Baking Basics Tuesday, July 16 2 – 4 PM $20 Members / $25 Non-Members Instructed by: Maria Brennan Bring your baking questions to Maria from The Victorian Bakery as she discusses various baking topics. Some topics to be covered are methods of levaining - air, baking powder, baking powder/soda, yeast and sourdough, how to correctly mix - cookies, sponges and cakes, and many more! This class is designed to help you up your baking game and produce the best baked goods at home! Author Event with Carol Lacey Tuesday, July 16 2 – 3:30 PM Free and Open to the Public Join us as Carol Lacey, visiting author, discusses her three published books, “Ensnared by Evil,” “Whom the Son Sets Free,” and “Free Indeed.” At 89 years young, Carol Lacey from Portage started writing about 20 years ago after she had already retired. Her third book published in three years was just released last month and is now available on Amazon along with her other two books. You'll be inspired by her message that it's never too late to get started on your dreams. Join us to hear her story and how she became a published author later in life. Calligraphy for All Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 16 – August 1 10 AM – 12 PM $20 Members / $25 Non-Members Instructed by: Larry Smith Calligraphy means “beautiful writing.” This course will cover basic letter strokes, and the understanding and experience of learning formal and cursive calligraphy writing styles. The course fee will include all necessary supplies and instruction handouts. Homework exercises are an essential component to calligraphy instruction. The calligraphy instructor majored in art at St. Ambrose University, Davenport, IA, and received four years of calligraphy training and experience under the Rev. Edward Catich, a master calligrapher. Fun Walks- New Times for Summer!Wednesday, July 1710 AM – 12 PMFree- Call to register at (269) 329 – 4555Join us and other PZSC members for a fun walk through Portage. Portage Northwest Bikeway is paved, tree-lined, and offers beautiful wildflowers and is often bordered by quiet neighborhoods. Plan to meet at 10 AM at the parking lot behind the old Sears building (by the trees). The Group Leader, Lynn, will hold a sign so people can see where to gather. Restrooms are available about mid-trail at Haverhill Park. Walkers can complete the whole route of about four (4) miles round trip or turn back at any time. The walk will begin at 10:15 AM. Be sure to wear comfortable and sturdy shoes, and dress in layers for the weather. We recommend bringing sunblock and a water bottle to stay hydrated. See you there!

REMINDER: Cancellation/ Refund Policy for Classes & ProgramsPlease make sure to register early for all programs and classes offered by PZSC to ensure you get a spot and to avoid the cancellation of classes due to low enrollment. Effective immediately, the PZSC Cancellation Policy requires a 72-business hour (3 days) notice for all cancellations of classes and programs. If you need to cancel your reservation in a class, please do so at least 72-business hours in advance of the scheduled start time. Failure to provide the required notice will result in no refund or credit. Refunds will not be given after a program has begun unless there is a valid medical concern or emergency. However, if the cancellation is due to the discretion of PZSC, including weather advisories or instructor illness, a partial credit will be placed into the member’s account. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Please note that the cancellation/refund policy for travel-related reservations are handled differently.
