Black History Month Presentation Speaker Change
Derreck Kayongo to speak at Air Zoo on Saturday, February 4
In celebration of Black History Month, the City of Portage will host Derreck Kayongo on Saturday, February 4 at the Air Zoo (6151 Portage Road). Due to an unforeseen personal matter, Lt. General Russel Honoré, who was scheduled to speak, will no longer be able to attend the City of Portage 2023 Black History Month Celebration. Derreck Kayongo has graciously stepped in to share his story of survival, discovery, and humanitarianism.
From a young Ugandan refugee to a successful entrepreneur, human rights activist, and renowned global health expert, Kayongo brings his story and guiding principles, coined as S.E.L.F., (Service, Education, Leadership, and Faith), to life in emotionally packed presentations that stay with you long after his closing remarks. Kayongo is the founder of the Global Soap Project, which recycles bars of soap from thousands of hotels and redistributes them to disadvantaged populations. Join the City of Portage as we dive into the life journey of Derreck Kayongo on Saturday, February 4 at 6 PM at the Air Zoo. After the presentation enjoy a question-and-answer session and the Air Zoo’s featured exhibitions.
This event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30 PM with the presentation starting at 6 PM. For more information, visit the Facebook event page or contact Portage Parks & Recreation at (269) 329-4522.
