Construction work has been ongoing in the Celery Flats Historical Area in Portage. The lower level bathrooms at the Hayloft Theatre have been completely renovated, with new floors, tile and fixtures. These updates will make the facilities easier to maintain and offer beautiful new amenities for the public. The restrooms at the former Celery Flats Interpretive Center have been closed in anticipation of demolition of the existing building. Construction of a new pavilion, to include restroom facilities, will begin in early June.
An expansion of the Celery Flats Historical Area parking lot on Garden Lane, which doubled capacity from 57 to 97 spaces, is complete, along with a new trail that leads around the parking lot and the perimeter of the pavilion area, along the wetlands and forest areas. Planting of new trees, grass and other landscaping will continue through the spring in concert with construction of the new pavilion.Questions about the Celery Flats Historical Area renovation project can be directed to Portage Parks & Recreation at 329-4522.
