The City of Portage has been advised that Kalamazoo County has decided to opt into the State of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services plan to spray insecticide to mitigate the public health risk of potential exposure to Eastern Equine Encephalitis. At this time, the spraying is scheduled to take place starting Sunday, September 29 at 8 PM and continuing until 4:30 AM the next morning.

Additional details are provided in a news release issued on September 27, 2019 by Kalamazoo County and the State of Michigan (see attached). Also attached is a list of Frequently Asked Questions supplied by the State of Michigan (Michigan.gov/EEE).  Specific questions about the planned aerial spraying can be directed to the Kalamazoo County Department of Health & Community Services at (269) 373-5200.
