In celebration of Black History Month, the City of Portage proudly presents its inaugural Black History Month Local Artist Display at Portage City Hall, 7900 South Westnedge Avenue, beginning Monday, February 3. View exciting artworks honoring the themes “Black History Month” and “Black Futures of Portage.”
The winning exhibition, titled “A Pathway to the Process,” showcases artworks by local multimedia artist Sharmane Flanders. This work, as described by Flanders, examines the process of “learning to love my blackness and appreciating my ancestors that paved this path for me.” The winning artwork was selected by the Portage Cultural Arts Committee, and award funding was provided by the Portage Parks Foundation.
Visit City Hall during normal business hours from February 3 to March 30 for an opportunity to view this unique, local art display. This exhibition is FREE and open to the public, no registration is required.
