[ARCHIVED] Adopt-A-Park

LitterCleanup-Raking

The Portage Parks & Recreation Adopt-A-Park program provides a great way to get outdoors with a group of family and friends and work together on a project to benefit the community.  Volunteer and community groups, neighborhood associations and businesses are all invited to take an active role in the maintenance, improvement and beautification of Portage parks, trails and green spaces. The Portage park system consists of 18 parks from which to choose; seven are currently adopted.

Adopters can work on a variety of projects including planting and maintaining flower beds, maintaining trails and paths, painting and caring for park structures, cleaning up litter, planting and mulching and general park maintenance.  Groups interested in the Adopt-A-Park program should contact Portage Parks & Recreation at 329-4522 to arrange a program overview meeting.  Groups will work with a coordinator to create a customized plan and schedule, as well as be provided with technical expertise, materials and tools.  Groups adopting a park are asked to commit to a minimum of one year of service and perform clean-ups at least four times a year.

In recognition, a sign will be placed in the park with the name of the adopting group, which also serves as a visible statement of their ongoing commitment to maintaining the area as a resource for the community.
