From Saturday, June 29 to Friday, July 5, you can enjoy fireworks until 11:45 PM each night. Please note that Portage is as restrictive as state law allows with the number of days that fireworks can be used (MCL - Section 28.457). To report violations of these hours and dates, please call dispatch at (269) 488-8911.
Be Compassionate
Fireworks can be a traumatic reminder for those who have served in combat or have experienced a fire, explosion, or gun violence. Pets may become so frightened by the noise and commotion of fireworks that they run away from familiar environments and people, and become lost. Whether expected or unexpected, loud noises and bright flashes can trigger distress and anxiety in individuals and animals. It's important to be mindful of the potential impact fireworks can have and take steps to minimize their distress whenever possible.
Consider the meaning and value of using fireworks versus other alternatives, like sparklers or light shows
Notify your neighbors ahead of time if fireworks are a part of your celebration and ask them if fireworks are difficult for them or their pet
Be Safe
If commercial fireworks are a part of your Independence Day celebration this year, please celebrate safely and responsibly.
- Respect other's private property - don't shoot fireworks over others' property and ensure proper disposal of fireworks debris.
- Follow these important safety tips from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
