The public is invited to the third of three planned public meetings for the Lake Center Commercial Corridor Rezoning Initiative on Thursday, June 27 at 6:30 pm at the Portage Zhang Senior Center (203 East Centre Avenue). This review meeting will provide an overview of zoning proposals being developed and considered by the Stakeholder Committee for the Lake Center Commercial Corridor Rezoning process.
In January 2024, the city kicked off the proposed rezoning process of the Lake Center District Commercial Corridor with an initial public meeting. The proposed rezoning aims to promote commercial reinvestment, diversify uses and building types, and enhance connectivity with the public space. This will shape the area’s character and improve consistency in the review process.
In May, the city held the second Commercial Corridor Rezoning Workshop at Lake Center Elementary School. The workshop included an overview of existing zoning requirements and some preliminary options for the Lake Center Commercial Corridor Rezoning process. Those who attended were able to provide feedback before amendments were drafted.
The third and final public review meeting will allow residents and business stakeholders the opportunity to review proposed amendments and provide feedback before proposed amendments are considered for recommendation by the Lake Center District Corridor Stakeholder Committee. The rezoning process is expected to be referred to the Planning Commission and City Council following a recommendation from the Stakeholder Committee.
