[ARCHIVED] Donation Center Open in Portage

Gryphon Place has launched a donation center at 9246 Portage Industrial Drive in Portage to facilitate the donation of items by the public and the distribution of items to those directly affected by the May 7, 2024, tornadoes.

The center is open to the public for DONATION DROP-OFF. Donations can be made Mon-Fri, 10 AM-4 PM. (Hours of operation may change and will be communicated publicly.) Donations of Food and Clothing are not being accepted at the Donation Management Center (read on for details).

DONATIONS OF THE FOLLOWING ARE ACCEPTED:
• Gift cards in $50 increments to Meijer, Target, and Walmart so affected families may purchase new items to meet their individual needs.
• First Aid Supplies (kits, band-aids, over-the-counter meds, PPE, Hand Sanitizer, etc.)
• Baby/Infant and New/Expecting Mother Materials (diapers, baby wipes, other baby essentials, formula, lactation supplies, children's bath materials, new/expecting mother materials, etc.)
• Paper Products (toilet paper, paper towels, body wipes, flushable wipes, etc.)
• Repackaging/Moving Materials (grocery bags, packing tape, bubble wrap, etc.)
• Hygiene Items (shampoo/conditioner/body wash, black hair care products, toothpaste/toothbrushes/floss, razors, deodorant, combs/brushes, Q-Tip’s, soap, hygiene packs, family planning, adult diapers)
• Cleaning Supplies (Clorox/disinfecting wipes, cleaning solutions, garbage bags, laundry detergent, dish soap, buckets/mops/brooms/dustpans, cleaning rags, etc.)
• Household Items (batteries, flashlights, etc.)
• Pet Supplies (pet food, cat litter, puppy pads, bowls, leashes, etc.)
• Recovery & Building Supplies (work gloves, goggles, face shields, tarps, plywood, construction supplies, tools, etc.)
• Bulk water

FOOD DONATIONS can be made to Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes at 901 Portage Street in Kalamazoo. Call (269) 488-2617, ext. 218 for large-scale food donations.

CLOTHING, TOYS, SMALL APPLIANCES, AND FURNITURE DONATIONS can be made to Goodwill Industries of Southwestern Michigan (Locations).

BEGINNING WEDNESDAY, MAY 15, families and individuals directly affected by the May 7 tornadoes may contact the DONATIONS HOTLINE at (269) 251-2211. A donation management center representative will ask for the resident’s address, phone number, and needed items. Volunteers will build a box of items at the donation management center and volunteers from the Salvation Army will deliver the supplies. Affected residents may also pick up needed items at the donation management center, beginning Wednesday, May 15.

Individuals needing food assistance may call the Loaves & Fishes food line at
(269) 343-3663 or email info@kzoolf.org to learn how to access services according to their needs. Home delivery is available for those who are homebound and/or without transportation.

Individuals affected by the tornadoes will be eligible for a voucher to local Goodwill stores to help families replace items lost in the storms. Residents may contact the Get Help team at Goodwill Industries for assistance with the application at gethelp@goodwillswmi.org.
