The Portage Youth Advisory Committee, in cooperation with the Portage Environmental Board and Park Board, will host the 11th annual Green-A-Thon community event to celebrate Earth Day. This FREE event will be held at the Celery Flats Historical Area, (7335 Garden Lane) on Saturday April 13, 2019 from 11 AM to 3 PM
The event will feature live music, games, face painting, activities and giveaways. Meet other individuals committed to promoting environmentally-friendly action in Portage. Numerous representatives from local organizations and businesses will be on hand to provide education about environmental ideas that can be utilized at home or work. Prizes include 300 seedlings of Eastern Redbud, White Flowering Dogwood and Red Chokeberry. Food and drink vendors will be on hand for refreshments.
Environmentally-focused exhibitors include Better World Builders, Aligned Care Chiropractic, Lake Village Homestead, Kalamazoo Conservation District, Citizens' Climate Lobby, Kalamazoo County Substance Abuse Task Force, Kalamazoo County Household Hazardous Waste Center, Gordon Water Systems, Kalamazoo Section of the American Chemical Society, Norwex, Portage Central High School Gardening Club and others.
The Portage Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) was created by the Portage City Council in 2008 to give Portage students an opportunity to share ideas and participate in local government. The YAC hosts this event to raise awareness of environmental issues affecting the citizens of Portage and to provide opportunities to become more ecologically friendly.
