As winter approaches, the Road Commission of Kalamazoo County, the City of Kalamazoo, and the City of Portage announce, "Shake Your Mailbox Day." This initiative aims to prevent mailbox damage during winter maintenance operations, ensuring that mailboxes can withstand the weight of snow coming off the plow blade and enabling safe and efficient snow removal across the region.
On Saturday, October 28, residents are encouraged to take a few minutes to inspect their mailboxes and make necessary adjustments to prepare for the upcoming winter season.
Tighten the screws that secure your mailbox to the post, replace loose hinges on the mailbox door, and ensure that the post is secure in the ground. Now is also a good time to add or replace reflective house numbers on your mailbox or residence. This will assist first responders in locating your home quickly during emergencies.
