An application is now available for Portage residents interested in filling a vacancy on the Portage City Council with a term ending November 13, 2023.
The City Charter (Chapter 3 Section 13) provides that the City Council must fill a vacancy in an elective office by appointment within sixty days of acceptance of a resignation. The City Charter further provides that the appointment will end on the first Monday following a regular city election. As such, the City Council has begun the process to fill the vacancy for a term to begin October 17, 2023. The appointment will then expire on November 13, 2023, and the remainder of the term will be filled from the City General Election on November 7, 2023.
To fill the current vacancy, the City Council has posted an application on the city website. Click HERE To Apply. The City Council will review the applications and select the new Councilmember at the regular City Council meeting on October 17, 2023.
The deadline for interested applicants to apply is Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 12 PM. Applications received after Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 12 PM will not be considered. Candidates are asked to attend the October 17, 2023 meeting or be available to be sworn in on October 18, 2023.
