The City of Portage is pleased to announce that absentee ballots for the upcoming November 7, 2023, City Election are available to Portage voters, in accordance with the Michigan Constitution. More than 5,000 absentee ballots will be mailed to eligible voters in Portage. Absentee ballots can also be obtained in person at the Office of the City Clerk at Portage City Hall (7900 South Westnedge Avenue).
With the passing of Proposal 2 in November 2022, voters have the option to sign up for the statewide permanent absentee ballot list. Unlike before, voters no longer need to submit an application before each election to receive an absentee ballot. Instead, voters can submit a one-time application to automatically receive an absentee ballot before each election. During the May 2023 election, Portage voters began signing up, and they will be the first to automatically receive their absentee ballots for the upcoming City Election in November, without needing to complete an application.
Please note that if you want your absentee ballot to be sent to an address other than your registered address, you must indicate it on your absentee ballot application. While absentee ballot applications can be forwarded by the Post Office, absentee ballots cannot.
