The City of Portage Mill & Fill Program is scheduled to continue on Monday, August 28 in the southeast portion of the city. The program involves major maintenance on selected streets to enhance the structural integrity and ride quality, as well as prolong the life of the street. This includes the removal of badly worn areas of the road and overlaying the surface with two inches of new asphalt.
The following locations are scheduled for this project: Roger Street, East Osterhout to Ludington Avenue; Wendover Court, Roger Street to the cul-de-sac; and Breckenridge Way, Roger Street to the cul-de-sac. Milling will begin on Monday, August 28, with paving planned for Wednesday, August 28. All work is dependent on the weather. To help residents identify if their property is affected, a map of the locations included in this work is attached.
During paving operations, one lane of travel will remain open at all times. To ensure the safety of residents and contract employees and to facilitate the efficient completion of the project, the city requests that vehicles be removed from the roadway during the project.
A “tac coat” (oily substance) is sprayed on the street prior to paving in order to bond the new asphalt to the old surface. Driving on the tac coat should be avoided as this material may attach to tires and vehicle undercarriages and may be carried onto driveways or garage floors.
