Beginning Monday, June 19, 2023, at 7 AM, construction will commence on the South Westnedge Avenue construction project from Melody Avenue to Centre Avenue. Construction will start with the removal of the pedestrian island on South Westnedge Avenue near the Portage Central campus. Motorists are advised to use caution when approaching this section of roadway as traffic movements will be controlled by flagging personnel.
The project also includes storm sewer improvements, upgrades of sidewalks and ADA ramps, replacement of the traffic signal at Centre Avenue, replacement of existing non-motorized trail south of Portage Central Elementary School, and driveway approaches. The project is anticipated to be complete in September 2023, with all underground work and sidewalks complete by mid-August 2023, weather and materials permitting.
