Portage Parks & Recreation will host Scalin' Up for Summer, sponsored by Veolia and the Future Angler Foundation on Saturday, June 10 from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Celery Flats Historic Area, 7335 Garden Lane. At the event, attendees will get an up-close look (and touch) of different types of scaly creatures and explore the world of fishing and boating. Participants will also learn about aquatic conservation, lure making and knot tying, cool reptile facts, and more.
Vendors participating at the event include the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Trout Unlimited, Michigan Society of Herpetologists, Critchlow Alligator Sanctuary, Kalamazoo Book Arts Center, Kalamazoo County Water Safety & Recover Association, Muxlow Exotics, Barry-Calhoun-Kalamazoo Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (BCK CISMA), Hawg Troughs with a 2,000-gallon stocked mobile fish tank, and the Portage District Library. All vendors are subject to change.
Scalin’ Up for Summer is FREE and open to the public. The first 100 kids to complete a fishing passport will receive a FREE FISHING ROD courtesy of Veolia and the Future Angler Foundation.
