The Portage Department of Public Safety – Fire Division will conduct water rescue training on West Lake in Portage in cooperation with the Kalamazoo County Dive / Rescue team. The training will take place at 9138 Portage Road – the site of the former West Lake Drive-In. Contingent on good weather, the water rescue training is planned according to the following schedule:
- Wednesday, August 10 from 6 – 9 PM
- Thursday, August 11 from 6 – 9 PM
- Friday, August 12 from 6 – 9 PM
For the safety of the public and firefighters, boaters on West Lake are asked to remain a minimum of 200 yards away from the training activities. Questions concerning this training may be directed to the Portage Department of Public Safety – Fire Division at (269) 329-4487.
