The Lovers Lane reconstruction project from East Milham Avenue to East Kilgore Road is set to begin on June 13, 2022. The project involves replacing 750 feet of City of Kalamazoo water main south of East Kilgore Road, which will require a complete closure of Lovers Lane north of the East Kilgore Road intersection from June 13, 2022, through June 27, 2022. Motorists are advised to follow the signed detour route, which is East Kilgore Road to Burdick Street to Cork Street.
The project also includes a sanitary sewer extension north of I-94, barrier-free access at all sidewalk crossings including tactile warning surfaces, pavement milling, and asphalt resurfacing. With the exception of the June 13-27 road closure, a single lane in both directions is expected to be open during the project.
The City of Portage engaged Williams & Works for the engineering on this project and Lakeland Asphalt for construction. The total cost for the project, estimated to be completed in August 2022, is $1,336,535.
