[ARCHIVED] Ramona Beach Closed

Beach Closed 2025 07-29

On Tuesday, July 29, Ramona Park Beach temporarily closed due to the detection of high amounts of E. coli as determined through the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department’s weekly water quality monitoring program. The Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department is advising the public to avoid total body contact with the surface water in the bathing beach area on Long Lake at Ramona Park. In addition, posted signs will be provided to inform the public to avoid surface water contact. The beach will remain closed until new water samples meet Michigan Water Quality Standards.

Water samples collected on Monday, July 28, 2025, noted E. coli levels to be 765.6 per 100 ml, which exceeds the total body contact standard of 300 E. coli per 100 ml. The Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department will collect new samples on Tuesday, July 29, and release the results when they become available.

Ramona Park Beach patrons are encouraged to contact their health provider with questions pertaining to illness. Questions concerning the water sampling program at Ramona Park Beach or Michigan Water Quality Standards may be directed to the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department at (269) 373-5337.
