The City of Portage announces the 8th Annual Portage Community Art Award in collaboration with the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts’ (KIA) annual West Michigan Area Show (WMAS). The WMAS is a juried exhibition of the visual arts from community talent spanning a 14-county region. Submissions can range from paintings, prints, and photos to mosaics, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, wood turnings, mixed media, and others.
To be eligible for the City of Portage award of $1,000, the winning artist must be a resident of Portage, Michigan. Artwork submitted must reflect the city’s theme, “A Natural Place to Move,” and the winning artwork must be available for display in the Portage City Hall Lobby for one year beginning September 11, 2025. In addition, the winner will need a minimum of 12 to 20 additional works of art of any medium for an exhibition in Portage City Hall from September 11 to November 7, 2025. An unveiling of the winning work of art, along with the accompanying exhibition, will take place on September 11, 2025.
Artists may submit entries according to guidelines available on the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts website at kiarts.org from March 1 to April 20, 2025. The WMAS awards presentation will be held on Friday, June 13, and exhibited at the KIA through Sunday, September 14, 2025.
