The City of Portage Street Mill and Fill Program consists of major maintenance to selected streets to enhance structural integrity and ride quality, as well as prolong the life of the street. These improvements include the removal of badly worn areas of the road and overlaying the surface with two inches of new asphalt. The city has contracted with Lakeland Asphalt Corp. to perform the Mill and Fill Program. Milling begins on Wednesday, August 14, and paving begins on Thursday, August 15. The following locations are scheduled for this project:
Brynmawr Drive from Angling Road to the cul-de-sac:
Milling: Wednesday, August 14
Paving: Thursday, August 15
Abigail Street from East Osterhout Avenue to the cul-de-sac
Milling: Wednesday, August 14
Paving: Thursday, August 15
During paving operations, one lane of travel will remain open at all times. Residents should avoid driving on the "tac coat," an oily substance sprayed on the street before paving to bond the new asphalt to the old surface. This material can stick to tires and vehicle undercarriages, potentially being carried onto driveways or garage floors.
To ensure the safety of residents and contracted employees and to facilitate the efficient completion of the project, residents are asked to remove all vehicles from the roadway during the project.
