[ARCHIVED] Storm Debris Collection

2024 06-17 Storm Debris Collection

The City of Portage will collect tree and brush storm debris caused by the June 16 and 17, 2024 storm as part of the July Curbside Brush Collection Program. This program will start on July 1 in the northwest section of the city. Residents may begin placing materials at the curb today. In the meantime, Department of Public Works employees will be working to remove large tornado and storm tree debris from major roads and heavily affected neighborhoods. This effort may result in smaller, more manageable piles of brush left at the roadside for the regular July Curbside Brush Collection Program.

Complete program details, including estimated collection dates, can be found at portagemi.gov/280. As a result of the June 16 and 17 storm and the May 7 tornado in Portage, certain modifications have been made to the July 2024 Curbside Brush Collection Program:

  • Branches should be less than 8 feet long but can be greater than 3 inches in diameter.
  • Brush and branches generated from removing a tree with a trunk greater than 4 inches in diameter will be accepted.
  • Parts of a whole tree removed will be collected.

Questions regarding the July Curbside Brush Collection Program can be directed to the Department of Public Works by calling (269) 329-4444.
