  1. City Hall Exhibition - One-Room Schoolhouse

    Rotating exhibitions are featured in the atrium at Portage City Hall (7900 South Westnedge Avenue) throughout the year and focus on local arts and history. The exhibitions are FREE to the public and are open Monday through Friday from 9 AM – 4 PM. An exhibit to feature the historic One-Room District #8 Schoolhouse also known as Prairie Edge School built in 1856. Don’t miss these previously unpublicized large-scale images of what days were like during these times.

  2. Portage Farmers Market

    The Portage Farmers Market opens May 9 and will run through October 24, every Sunday from 10 AM – 2 PM.   3. Kid's Try-It! Sports

    Summer is the time to try new things! We have a great opportunity for your little ones, ages 4-5 & 6-7, to have a hands-on experience with sports activities. For six weeks, children will experience a new and different sport through fun drills and games each week! In addition to practicing the basics of each sport, kids will learn sportsmanship, teamwork and to try, try again!   5. Paddlesports Sampler

    The Paddlesports Sampler is a great way to introduce a variety of watercraft to the aspiring paddlesports enthusiasts. Learn basic skills for kayaks, canoes and stand-up paddleboards through games and fun activities with American Canoe Association certified instructors! All of the necessary equipment will be provided. Participants should dress accordingly for the weather and the possibility of getting wet. Choose between classes on Tuesdays or Saturdays. Maximum of 8 participants per class.

    In the Great Lakes State, summer means it is time to hit your favorite fishing hole! Bring the entire family to celebrate all things water. Families of all ages and abilities can explore the world of fishing, boating and aquatic conservation. Enjoy engaging activities such as lure making, knot tying and fly casting. Local fishing support organizations and other local fishing guides will be there to provide their expertise to help your family get started on making fishing memories. Fishing equipment will be available for those hoping to reel in their first (or next) catch of the day. First 100 kids will receive a FREE FISHING ROD

  7. Soul Food: "Truths, Tastes & Traditions" with Dr. Jumanne & Guest Chef

    Celebrate the African American culinary experience with this interactive and delicious workshop. Dr. Monifa A. Jumanne and a guest chef will first walk us through the history of Juneteenth – June 19 - an African American holiday. We will then explore that distinctive cuisine known as “Soul Food.” With an array of tasty samples, this session examines the enduring significance of soul food in American culture.
