  1. Photo Contest

    October 1, 2020 - June 14, 2021 @ Portage Parks

    Along with the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Portage Parks & Recreation is seeking submissions of photos from all seasons. Winning photos will be selected from four categories: Seasonal Changes; Outdoor Recreation; Flora, Fauna & Wildlife; and Youth (14 years and under). Photos must be taken in a City of Portage park by June 14, 2021. Limit three entries per category, per person. Photos will be judged by a panel of area photography professionals with prizes awarded for first, second and third place in each category. Entry costs are $10 for up to three entries per category, except Youth; $5 for up to three entries in the Youth category (i.e., maximum $30 for nine entries). Prizes: 1st - $75; 2nd -$35 and 3rd -$25 for each of the four categories. Visit the Parks & Recreation Events page at mypark.portagemi.gov for full category descriptions and complete contest rules.

  2. City Hall Exhibitions - What's in a Name?

    Rotating exhibitions that focus on local arts and history are featured at Portage City Hall throughout the year. The exhibitions are free to the public and are open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM. Ever wonder about the names on some of the streets and other areas in Portage? Discover the history behind names such as Austin, Kilgore, Milham, Dry Prairie and others that created a footprint on the City of Portage we know today. If you have photos or stories to share about people who shaped the early settlement of Portage from 1830 to the early 1900’s, please contact Portage Parks & Recreation to add their history to our archives.

  3. 13th Annual Green-A-Thon & Portage Farmers Market Sneak Peek

    April 25, 2021, 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM @ Portage City Hall - Parking Lot

    The Portage Youth Advisory Committee, in cooperation with the Portage Environmental Board and Park Board, will host the 13th Annual Green-A-Thon to celebrate Earth Day. Green-A-Thon will feature games and representatives from many local organizations and businesses providing education about environmental ideas that can be used in your home or business. For the first year ever, the event will coordinate with a special Farmers Market to give patrons a sneak peek of what is in store this season at the Portage Farmers Market. Come out on Sunday, April 25 to meet other individuals committed to promoting environmentally friendly action in Portage.
