  1. Photo Contest

    October 1, 2020 - June 14, 2021 @ Portage Parks

    Along with the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Portage Parks & Recreation is seeking submissions of photos from all seasons. Winning photos will be selected from four categories: Seasonal Changes; Outdoor Recreation; Flora, Fauna & Wildlife; and Youth (14 years and under). Photos must be taken in a City of Portage park by June 14, 2021. Limit three entries per category, per person. Photos will be judged by a panel of area photography professionals with prizes awarded for first, second and third place in each category. Entry costs are $10 for up to three entries per category, except Youth; $5 for up to three entries in the Youth category (i.e., maximum $30 for nine entries). Prizes: 1st - $75; 2nd -$35 and 3rd -$25 for each of the four categories. Visit the Parks & Recreation Events page at for full category descriptions and complete contest rules.

  2. Ping Pong League - Session 2

    January 20, 2021, 6:00 PM - March 10, 2021 @ Schrier Park

    We are just getting warmed up. Ping pong is a great low impact sport suitable for any athlete! Meet new friends in our recreational ping pong league. Two 10-week sessions are offered. All games for both sessions will start at 6 and 7 PM. Session 2: Wednesdays, January 6 – March 10. Registration for the second session will begin on November 9 and close December 18.   3. City Hall Exhibitions - Little Known Facts

    February 1, 2021, 9:00 AM - February 26, 2021, 4:00 PM @ Portage City Hall

    Rotating exhibitions that focus on local arts and history are featured at Portage City Hall throughout the year. The exhibitions are free to the public and are open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM. To celebrate Black History Month, discover some memorable moments and courageous stories in history with this exhibit featuring interesting lesser known events and people in American Black History.

  4. Flakes, Flurries & Finger Painting

    February 6, 2021, 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM @ Schrier Park

    Snow…an exact science or breathtaking art? Exercise your creativity as we explore the mystical world of snow! In this 90-minute program, kids will get imaginative with snow-themed art projects and then dive into snow experiments. This program is geared for 5-9 year old children. Space is limited.   5. YAC Winter Snow Party

    February 6, 2021, 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM @ Oakland Drive Park

    A great opportunity to enjoy time with your family all while embracing the wonders of the Michigan outdoors. The event is hosted by the Portage Youth Advisory Committee. There is a sled design contest - build, decorate and bring your own cardboard sled! And, a snowman building contest - build and dress up the fanciest snowman! Prizes will be awarded for best in show for both contests as well as the fastest cardboard sled! Cardboard sled contests begins at 1 PM, with snowman building following soon after. There will also be a scavenger hunt. Face masks are required. Attendance restrictions may apply for safety – stay tuned to the city website and city Facebook page for updates! All ages are welcome.
