  1. Photo Contest Begins

    October 1, 2021 - June 14, 2022

    Along with the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Portage Parks & Recreation is seeking submissions of photos from all seasons. Winning photos will be selected from four categories: Seasonal Changes; Outdoor Recreation; Flora, Fauna & Wildlife; and Youth (14 years and under). Photos must be taken in a City of Portage park by June 14, 2022. Limit three entries per category, per person. Photos will be judged by a panel of area photography professionals with prizes awarded for first, second and third place in each category. Entry costs are $10 for up to three entries per category, except Youth, which are $5 for up to three entries (i.e., maximum $30 for nine entries). Prizes: 1st - $75; 2nd -$35 and 3rd -$25 for each of the four categories.   4. Kingpins Drumline Full Session

    The Kingpins Drumline provides students with special needs with a drumming program specifically tailored for performers of different abilities. A six-week session of drumming with a showcase at the end! Counselors will guide students through each lesson. Only 20 students are allowed per class. Classes are taught by the Crystal Lake Strikers. With over 14 years of drum instruction experience, the award winning trio supports and educates students with different backgrounds and experience levels.

  13. Ice Rink At Millennium Park: Introduction to Skating 2

    Learn to skate with the talented members of the WMU Synchronized Skating Team. Classes are open to adults and children who would like to learn to skate. Classes are $11 each, per person.   21. Ski & Snowboard Lessons

    Timber Ridge Ski Area 

    Group downhill ski and snowboard lessons for beginners taught by professional instructors on the snowy slopes of Timber Ridge, just 30 minutes from Portage. The fee includes equipment rental, instruction for three weeks and a lift ticket valid until 8 PM on each lesson date. Space is limited and pre-registration is required by January 28. Ages 8 - Adult.
