FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Date: August 5, 2022
Case No. 22-22457
On August 5, 2022, at approximately 10:15 a.m., Portage Public Safety fire and police divisions responded to a report that someone had fallen off the hood of a moving car as it traveled southbound on Oakland Drive near Centre Avenue.
The investigation determined that a 20-year-old Kalamazoo man and an 18-year- old Portage woman had gotten into a domestic argument and as he attempted to leave an apartment complex parking lot, she jumped on the hood of the car. The man continued to drive south on Oakland from Milham knowing the woman was clinging on the hood of the car. Upon reaching the area of Oakland Drive near Centre Avenue, she fell off causing severe head injury. It is not believed that excessively high speeds were involved.
The driver was lodged in the Kalamazoo County Jail, and the woman was transported to Bronson Hospital where she is listed in critical condition. The investigation will be forwarded to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s office for review.
