  1. Photo Contest

    October 1, 2020 - June 14, 2021 @ Portage Parks

    Along with the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, Portage Parks & Recreation is seeking submissions of photos from all seasons. Winning photos will be selected from four categories: Seasonal Changes; Outdoor Recreation; Flora, Fauna & Wildlife; and Youth (14 years and under). Photos must be taken in a City of Portage park by June 14, 2021. Limit three entries per category, per person. Photos will be judged by a panel of area photography professionals with prizes awarded for first, second and third place in each category. Entry costs are $10 for up to three entries per category, except Youth; $5 for up to three entries in the Youth category (i.e., maximum $30 for nine entries). Prizes: 1st - $75; 2nd -$35 and 3rd -$25 for each of the four categories. Visit the Parks & Recreation Events page at mypark.portagemi.gov for full category descriptions and complete contest rules.

  2. Ping Pong League - Session 2

    January 20, 2021, 6:00 PM - March 10, 2021 @ Schrier Park

    We are just getting warmed up. Ping pong is a great low impact sport suitable for any athlete! Meet new friends in our recreational ping pong league. Two 10-week sessions are offered. All games for both sessions will start at 6 and 7 PM. Session 2: Wednesdays, January 6 – March 10. Registration for the second session will begin on November 9 and close December 18.   3. City Hall Exhibitions - Little Known Facts

    February 1, 2021, 9:00 AM - February 26, 2021, 4:00 PM @ Portage City Hall

    Rotating exhibitions that focus on local arts and history are featured at Portage City Hall throughout the year. The exhibitions are free to the public and are open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM. To celebrate Black History Month, discover some memorable moments and courageous stories in history with this exhibit featuring interesting lesser known events and people in American Black History.

  4. Black History Month Presentation

    February 26, 2021, 7:00 PM @ VIRTUAL

    “Local Leaders Spotlight, Highlighting the Black Experience with Personal Interviews and Demonstrations.” Every Friday in February, a local African American leader will share their experience in their field of expertise, in a virtual format at 7 PM. Sonya and Sean Hollins, Publishers of Season Press LLC, will share the story behind “Your Turn,” a coloring book that celebrates African American women trailblazers of Kalamazoo, and will introduce their new coloring book on Friday, February 26.   5. Ranger Hikes - Animal Tracks
