Human Resources
Responsibilities
The Human Resources Department provides assistance to all city departments in the areas of recruitment and selection of new employees, employee and labor relations, safety, and training. The Human Resources Department ensures city compliance with many state and federal requirements, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), MIOSHA Standards, and Department of Transportation CDL Regulations.
Title VI Non-Discrimination Policy
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, related statutes and regulations provide that “no person shall on the grounds of race, color, national origin, gender, or disabilities be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal funds. Individuals who have a limited ability to speak and understand English are entitled to language assistance in respect to a particular service. The entire institution must comply with Federal civil rights laws, not just the particular programs or activities receiving the federal funds."
The City of Portage embraces the above statement and insists that all citizens and customers have access to the same programs and services offered by the city and that all individuals are treated in the same fair and equitable manner by city employees.
