  1. School of Fish Day Camp- Advanced Anglers

    August 8, 2018, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM @ Ramona Park & Beach

    Day campers will experience all the joys and benefits associated with fishing and environmental conservation. During this unique adventure, youth will have the opportunity to explore the outdoors and learn skills necessary to start their own fishing memories. Professional instruction and guidance is provided as youth participate in many hands on activities, and of course...GO FISHING! Space is limited. Registration fee includes a fishing rod. To register visit www.portagemi.gov and click on the purple Recreation Activities button. Registration deadline is 2 weeks prior to camp start date. Intermediate and experienced young anglers will learn: • Fishing techniques such as Jigging • Advanced Knots • Artificial Lures • Intro to Fly Fishing • Boater Safety • Fishing from a Canoe • Lure Making • Fishing and boating regulations

  2. Swim Lessons (Beginner/Intermediate) Session 1

    August 8, 2018, 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM @ Ramona Park & Beach

    Beginner Level is for new, inexperienced swimmers ages 5 and up. Beginning levels introduce basic aquatic skills such as floating, gliding, bobbing and breath control, as well as expand on kicking and stroke basics. Instructors use fun activities and games to make the water an enjoyable place and to help children learn the fundamentals and gain confidence in and around the water. Participants will also learn basic water safety. Intermediate Level builds off of the skills taught in the Beginner Level by coordinating strokes and increasing endurance. The skills learned from Beginner Level will be fine-tuned so participants can perform them independently. Rotary breathing is introduced and survival skills (floating and treading water) are progressed. Participants will also learn basic water safety.
