The Portage Youth Advisory Committee, in cooperation with the Portage Environmental Board and Park Board, is hosting the 10th annual Green-A-Thon community event to celebrate Earth Day. This FREE event will be held at Celery Flats, (7335 Garden Lane) on Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Live music, games, free seedlings, face painting, activities, giveaways and numerous representatives from over thirty local organizations and businesses will be on hand to provide entertainment and education about environmental ideas that can be utilized at home or work.
Exhibitors include Better World Builders, Costco, Kalamazoo County Substance Abuse Task Force, American Chemical Society - Kalamazoo Division, Michigan State University Extension Master Gardeners, Lake Village Homestead, Kalamazoo Astronomical Society, Portage Partners 4-H and Portage District Library. Giveaways include 300 seedlings of Eastern Redbud, Spicebush, White Flowering Dogwood. Smoked Down BBQ and Coffee Rescue will be on hand for refreshments.
The Portage Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) was created by the Portage City Council in 2008 to give Portage students an opportunity to share ideas and participate in local government. The YAC is hosting this event to raise awareness of environmental issues affecting the citizens of Portage and to provide opportunities to become more ecologically friendly.
