Household Hazardous Waste Program

The Kalamazoo County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Center is open year-round and is FREE! for Portage residents. The HHW program is an environmentally-safe way to rid your home of household chemicals, electronics and other materials not accepted in landfills. The HHW Center is located at 1301 Lamont Street in Kalamazoo (next to the Kalamazoo County fairgrounds).

Collection Hours

Tuesdays & Fridays 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Wednesdays 12 noon - 6 p.m.
2nd Saturday of Each Month 8 a.m. - 12 noon
  (except August and September)

Occasionally, the HHW Center will close for certain fairground events and due to inclement weather.

  • Batteries
  • Cleaners
  • Computers & Monitors
  • Electronics (printers, laptops, cell phones, stereos, etc.)
  • Fluorescent Light Bulbs (up to 8 feet)
  • Gasoline
  • Kerosene
  • Mercury/Thermostats
  • Microwaves
  • Oil-based Paint (no latex paint)
  • Pesticides
  • TV’s and Stereos
  • Used Motor Oil & Oil Filters
