6th Annual Winter Blast Kicks Off February 25

The 6th Annual Winter Blast Half Marathon, 10k and 5k, presented in partnership by Kalamazoo Area Runners and the City of Portage will be held Sunday, February 25, 2018. Runners and spectators alike are invited to join in this extraordinary community celebration of health and wellness. The courses highlight the Portage trail system and include a mix of mostly flat paved bike trails and roads.

All running events will start and end at Portage Central High School, 8135 South Westnedge Avenue. Parking is available at Portage Central Elementary and Middle schools, the Portage Community Center, Portage District Library, the Portage Senior Center and Portage City Hall.

Post-race refreshments and entertainment will be available and awards will be presented at the Portage Central High School Commons Area. Registration for the half marathon will close once it reaches a cap of 1,500 participants.

  • Traffic control by Police at intersection of Shaver / Melody (8 - 9 a.m.)
  • Traffic control by Police at intersection of Westnedge / Melody (9 -10:30 a.m.)
  • Residents are asked to stop for runners crossing driveways:
    • on the west side of Westnedge, Centre to Osterhout
    • on the north side of Osterhout, 1610 Osterhout to Westnedge
  • Drivers on Pheasant Run, Brittany, Montague, Cherryview, Oakview, Parkland Terrace, Crocket and Melody, as well as Lloy and Osterhout are asked to follow Course Marshal directions and be aware of runners in the area.

Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes and be prepared for traffic delays during this period. Please drive with caution, watch for police, volunteers, runners and traffic control devices.
