Second Annual "Paint the Plow" Contest
The City of Portage Department of Public Services, in partnership with Portage Public Schools, presents the second annual “Paint the Plow” contest. Students have painted several Public Services Department snowplows with original artwork to represent the individual schools. The plows will be attached to trucks to use on roadways throughout the city this coming winter. In addition to being visible when in full service during the winter months, the plows will also be used at events within the community to enhance public awareness, promote safety and foster greater appreciation of the Department of Public Services snowplowing fleet and the art programs at Portage Public Schools.
All Portage schools were invited to be involved in this year’s program with four schools participating. One plow was delivered to each participating school in May. The design and artwork was completed exclusively by students. There was no specific theme for entries and all of the artwork is original, representing artwork to promote patriotic, state or weather-related motifs. Students were also encouraged to incorporate their school’s logo, emblem or mascot into the designs.
Plows were collected from each school in June and are on display at the corner of South Westnedge Avenue and Library Lane, across from City Hall. A special thank you to ePaint Recycling Services for their support of this community project and for donating the paint students used to bring their designs to life!
Time to Vote!
Click the plow to view the completed plows and vote online for your favorite design in each of two categories – High School and Middle School. Voting begins July 3 and ends July 30. Contest results will be announced August 1, 2016. Votes can also be submitted by visiting the Portage District Library located at 300 Library Lane until July 30.
