The City of Portage has postponed indefinitely the Spring Cleanup of unwanted household items. Governor Whitmer’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” Executive Order directs all non-critical businesses to temporarily close, all Michiganders to stay home or six feet away from others during COVID-19 crisis.
The City of Portage contracts with Waste Management to perform the Spring Cleanup program. In a statement, Waste Management said, “In order for Waste Management to maintain its focus on municipal solid waste collection and disposal, and due to the reduced number of employees in the field, effective Wednesday, April 1, 2020, Waste Management is temporarily suspending the performance of spring bulk clean-ups, which are non-essential during this period of emergency.”
Portage homeowners are encouraged to not place items for collection on the curb at this time. Updates to the status of the Spring Cleanup program will be made at portagemi.gov and on the city Facebook page: facebook.com/CityofPortageMI.
